Potential solutions include new circulator service, self-driving transit vehicles, extension of existing services, and expanded hours of service (e.g. early morning, late night service, and weekend service). Additionally, opportunities to continue leveraging resources for public/private investment in improved transit service will be explored.
Improved transit is important to economic development because it connects communities, people to jobs, and activity centers. For certain corridors, transit will provide the most efficient form of travel and complement new development.
Recognizing that several important planning efforts have been completed in the Aerotropolis area, the Transit Feasibility Study will be consistent with projects such as the Greenway Plan, Master Plan, Complete Streets Plan, and other initiatives.
The Transit Feasibility Study will have a major emphasis on public feedback. The team will conduct interviews with key stakeholders, regular stakeholder committee meetings, mobile exhibits, public meetings, and surveys. Throughout the study, a dedicated website will be maintained with meeting notices, maps, and contact information.
Technology is revolutionizing public transit as we know it today, bringing electric and autonomous vehicles to offer new solutions. The project team will reach out to technology providers and conduct an Innovation Summit that will demonstrate how cutting edge technologies can be applied to the Aerotropolis market.
The Transit Feasibility Study began in January of 2018 and will be completed in 12 months.
Investments in the Airport, major highways, and MARTA have been critical drivers of economic activity. Major corporations such as Chick-fil-A, Porsche, and others already see the merit of proximity to the Airport and connectivity.
There is a significant opportunity for Atlantans to benefit from additional development near the Airport, such as jobs, housing, shopping, and restaurants. This is part of the vision of the Aerotropolis Atlanta Community Improvement Districts. Additional transit serving the Aerotropolis area will help bring about this vision, keep the economy growing, and take us to the next level.
Help us determine the future transit solutions in the Aerotropolis.
